"...one band that stands out in particular..."

Mike Watford

Keyboard/Saxophone/Vocals

Occupation:

Mechanical Engineer

Biography:

I was born in Alabama, and spent most of my youth in Georgia, just outside Atlanta.  I performed in just about every musical group I could join.  DeKalb Community Concert Band, Auburn Jazz Band, Auburn Knights Dance Band, Auburn Marching Band, Clarkston High Marching Band, Lake Charles Jazz Band.  My Dad was a band director.  He played sax and bassoon.  Like father, like son.  Now, my son plays sax.  Three generations of sax players.  Mom got me started on piano lessons at about 6 yrs. old. Didn't really start playing until the lessons stopped.  Mom and Dad both worked with me learning chords.  I've written a few songs along the way, none of which we perform with Classic Waxx.  I worked for General Motors coming through college.  Every other quarter I'd travel to Athens, Alabama to work at the Saginaw Steering Gear Plant.  I went to work for PPG in Lake Charles, Louisiana after graduation with my ME degree.  There, I met and married my wife, Jamie.  We ended up in Paducah after both getting laid off the same day.  We still miss our friends and the Cajun cooking.  Now, my stepdaughter is married and I have a grandson.  My son is attending Murray State and playing in every group he can join.

Favorite group:

Depends on who's playing.  Count Basie, Boston Pops, Ella, SpyroGyra, Steelie Dan, Carol King ...

Favorite song the band does:

Mustang Sally

When not playing with the band, or working, what do you like to do the best:

I really enjoy taking care of the grandson, and helping my stepdaughter's family with their new home.  Also, I spend much more time than I should working with the computer on midi and audio music recording.
